A crime plot and a drama plot put together. Separately they could have worked very well, now it is too forced that the main perpetrator is also the rapist (? - because in the end this is heavily questioned, but 'luckily' he raped Ann ...) from Becky. Unfortunately. Catherine is also a bit too much of a saint who is the only one who knows how to play detective and has, so to speak, through the entire valley, while the rest are just struggling. No, I don't understand why this scores so high... I'm not going to call it bad.

Rather ironic title for this grim, intense English police series. It is mainly the wonderfully developed characters that lead the way here, although the exciting and often emotionally gripping plot lines may also be there. Sarah Lancashire is sublime in the tricky lead; her character is not always sympathetic and goes through deep valleys. Followed by an equally strong second series, which continues directly on the events of the first.
