Documentary in four parts about a black American cultural icon who was mercilessly knocked off his pedestal. Bill Cosby was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison in September 2015 for the sexual abuse and rape of multiple women. Like The People v. OJ Simpson, each part deals with a particular phase or facet of Bill Cosby's life. Part 1 concerns his first successes as a comedian and television actor, with which he bridged the gap between white and black. Part 2 deals with the first accusations that came during a period when Cosby assumed an image as 'the ideal father'. Part 3 covers the cultural impact of The Cosby Show and how and why people turned a blind eye to Cosby's fairly overt cross-border behavior and the final part shows how Cosby's reputation was finally ruined. Kamau Bell speaks with some of the most prominent victims, as well as with Cosby's colleagues who, despite everything, still consider him a mentor and friend. A well-balanced, well-researched documentary from which many lessons should be drawn. It took an unexpected, but telling turn when Cosby was found 'not guilty' on appeal – due to a formal error.
