Joanna Lumley embarks on her Silk Road adventure in Venice, where she learns how the travels of the Venetian hero Marco Polo and the merchants of the Silk Road influenced the city's growth. In Albania she walks along the Via Egnatia, the road that connected two corners of the Roman Empire: Rome and Byzantium. Then it goes to Turkey, to Istanbul, which played a crucial role on the route due to its location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. In Cappadocia, Joanna is amazed by the impressive rock formations that provide a unique landscape. Finally, she takes the night train to the highlands in the far east of Turkey, near the Georgian border.
