Depp v Heard plot

The protracted legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, a former married couple, attracted a lot of media attention worldwide. This conflict mainly arose after Heard wrote a piece in 2018 in which she stated that she had been a victim of domestic violence by Depp, her then husband. Depp then filed a lawsuit for spreading defamatory statements. The case led to a series of hearings, testimonies and defenses from both sides. The whole process is investigated, and both testimonies are compared. It also analyzes how this case became such a media sensation.

What a typical American documentary, absolutely no interest who had pooped in the bed, the dog or Heard. Get a life, I think there is a lot of work on these two crazy people, honestly, I haven't seen it in the last episode, what nonsense..

I still remember feeling sorry for the many people who have followed this process from start to finish. The experience of those two addicted ego trippers did not fascinate me. At the time, it really took effort to get as little of it as possible, because the media did their best to bring the event to a head. It was striking that the media reports were mainly in favor of Johnny Depp. From a distance it seemed like another case of Michael Jackson or OJ Simpson where popularity trumps justice. I myself am a fan of the MeToo movement, especially from Schadenfreude because progressive Hollywood was put in the spotlight as the epicenter of misogyny.

I set up this documentary in the hope of getting a summary of the process, but I still have the strong impression that I had to relive it completely. To see all those people cheering in front of the courthouse and on the internet gave me secondhand embarrassment again. Johnny Depp used to look like a horse thief, but now he looks like a shady pimp. His ex Heard is not a reliable subject either. Their marriage was toxic and explosive, doused in a sauce of booze and drugs. Well, I can't really respect either of them, let alone support them. How they did the devil to each other, dear virtue.

Did Heard actually lie in her accusations? The documentary did not convince me of that. She certainly couldn't make them hard in court while Depp could prove that she was at least as bad as he was. What was also proven in court is the sad conclusion that they are two addicted fringes with more than 1 psychiatric disorder and again that the people from Hollywood are perhaps the least placed to give others a moral lesson.
