At the criminal investigation department on Sylt, the headstrong chief inspector Theo Clüver is more inclined to solve cases with empathy, patience and instinct than with modern investigation methods. His colleague, Ina Behrendsen, approaches matters objectively, sternly and without emotion, while Hinnerk Feldmann stands out with his know-it-all attitude. After Clüver's retirement, his position is taken over by the rather reserved and uncommunicative chief inspector Carl Sievers, who combines a professional approach with an alert mind.
