Narcos: México plot

Narcos: Mexico explores the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, starting at a time when the Mexican drug world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers. Witness the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s when Félix Gallardo took over and traders united to build an empire. When DEA agent Kiki Camarena moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new position, he soon discovers that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever imagined. As Kiki gathers information about Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic series of events unfolds that influence the drug trade and the war against it for years to come.

It can't match the seasons about Colombia, but this season is reaching a high level again. Camera work and atmosphere setting are again very good, and Kiki Camareña is portrayed very well. Other storylines, however, do not interest me as much. Rafa, for example, quickly becomes irrelevant, but continues to receive a lot of attention. I also get too few thoughts/emotions from Felix Gallardo, while it is an interesting character. He also lacks the appearance of an Escobar, which also becomes clear when they meet.

Still, I always had the urge to look further and the story was also quite well put together. Yet another good season remains.

I've read quite a few more or less negative comments about "Narcos: Mexico", and I don't agree at all. And also that this would be a spin-off. Neither true. Narcos: Mexico describes the rise of the Mexican drug cartel that paralleled that of Colombia. At some point, the 2 find each other, but that was often difficult. But now the level of this series: great, and certainly comparable to the level of season 1 & 2 of Narcos. Wonderfully intense atmosphere, beautiful characterization of the 1980s in Mexico.
