Transparent plot
Mort is a father of 3 children. He decides to go through life as a woman. Mort undergoes a sex change and changes his name to Maura Pfefferman. Maura will do anything to be able to live as a woman. His new life creates several obstacles, such as making new friends. But the biggest hurdles are his children. How does he tell his kids he's transgender? How will his children, each with their own problems, react to this change?

Very good series. The characters have depth. Very well acted too. What's made so beautifully clear in this series is that even if you find it weird, awkward, funny, or don't you know, transgender people are just people. People with feelings, families, dreams. And it is not made easy for them, often not by their own family anyway, but even something as simple as going to a public toilet becomes a struggle. Very sad. As Maura said, "I'm just a person."
The family members all have their own struggles. Sometimes it gets a bit unbelievable, but it's still interesting. I also had to shed a tear several times. Among other things, I think the relationship between Maura and her ex-wife is very beautiful.
All in all, I enjoyed myself, laughed, made me think and gained a better understanding of what transgender people struggle with. Thick 4*

Adult series about the limits and possibilities of free sexuality in the present tense. The main character Mort is in a painful transition from man to woman, while his ex-wife and children, each in their own way also struggle with issues about sexual orientation and relational issues. Perhaps Mort's struggle is just more superficial to what his apparently more normative relatives are going through. What makes the series so enjoyable is that it intertwines black humor and intimate drama in a way that it crosses the boundaries of different genres itself.

Watching this series is like watching someone pick his nose heroically. It's awful but you can't stop watching. What annoying ugly people in this series! But also some pretty nice ones. It's a bit of sluggish bullshit and selfish stuff. I wonder how long I can handle it. I can't say anything about the series. See for yourself.
