The Sticky plot
Ruth Landry is a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer. When bureaucratic authorities threaten to take everything she loves away, she turns to crime. She teams up with a hot-tempered Boston mafioso and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard to pull off a multi-million dollar heist of Quebec's maple syrup surplus.

It's a fun watch. But 'The Sticky' steals elements from Fargo quite liberally. The snowy environments. The woolen sweaters and crazy accents. The over-the-top gangsters versus innocent good guys. The postmodern wink that we're not watching a true story. Even the recognizable play with morality, criticism of capitalism and the decisive role of chance. It makes 'The Sticky' feel like maple syrup diluted with water. It never gets as bittersweet as the original.
