Curb Your Enthusiasm plot

Larry David, co-creator and executive producer of the long-running hit comedy series Seinfeld, taps into a new source of humor: himself. He has everything a man could wish for: a loving wife, good friends, a successful career, a fantastic home - what could possibly go wrong for Larry David? Surrounded by a select bunch of real and fictional friends, acquaintances and sworn enemies, he is always willing to say the unspeakable; honest, but verging on the numb - Larry David is the perfect man for misunderstandings and missed opportunities.

Curb Your Enthusiasm season 2

Excellent second season of Curb Your Enthousiasm[/user], on par with the first season for me. It is therefore mostly a repetition of moves, but that is of course exactly the intention of this series by and with Larry David, co-creator of the hit series [i]Seinfeld, and to be honest: it doesn't bother me at all.

I'm just having so much fun with this. I also find the build-up of the episodes very strong. You sometimes see the joke coming from afar, but for me that just adds to the experience. I also find the music used to enhance the atmosphere; usually rather pompous and clownish, a carbon copy of Larry David's fictional character in the series.

The great thing is that you also get empathy for the not exactly likeable David from time to time, and I think that's because what he's going through is sometimes out of proportion, like the end of episode 10, in which he goes through a restaurant owner is accused of theft when he really just wants to do a good deed. Earlier in the episode, David ignored that man on the street in a socially rude way, which caused bad blood. The fact that David then receives a very painful (not physical) punishment by the judge, ultimately evokes my sympathy.

Just like in the first season, there are also some hilarious moments here. My favorites:

- David's argument with another Jew in Episode 3 by whistling a piece by Wagner, which then escalates and culminates in David's delightful revenge moment at the end of the episode;
- Episodes 7 & 8, featuring a doll and Shaquille O'Neal in a prominent role respectively;
- Just about every scene with Richard Lewis.

4 stars
