Jon Bernthal is set to make a return as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again.
From 2015 to 2018, Charlie Cox played Matt Murdock / Daredevil, a blind lawyer by day who fights criminals as a masked vigilante by night. Even though the series proved popular with fans, it was cancelled by Netflix after series three due to Disney acquiring the sole streaming rights to Marvel properties.
Following the cancellation, the term #SaveDaredevil began trending on social media.
It was believed that Daredevil, the show, was dead, but in March of 2022, an official reboot was announced titled Daredevil: Born Again.
Within Daredevil, Bernthal played Frank Castle, a former marine turned vigilante who ruthlessly brings down criminals after the death of his family. Bernthal would reprise the role in a standalone Punisher series.
It was recently announced that the actor would return as Castle again in Daredevil: Born Again, and he is desperate to do the character justice.
“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has,” Bernthal told Collider.
“In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply. I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”
In Born Again, Cox plays Matt Murdoch, while Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Bernthal will reprise their roles from the original series.
