Oppenheimer boasts one of the most impressive movie casts of all time.
Led by Cillian Murphy, the ensemble includes Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.
As it is a Christopher Nolan movie, though many fans were wondering when Sir Michael Caine would turn up due to the special relationship he has with the director.
The pair have collaborated on no less than eight movies - Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Dunkirk, Tenet, The Prestige and Interstellar.
Caine has suggested recently that retirement is on the horizon, and that is why he apparently told Nolan that "enough is enough" when he was approached for a role in Oppenheimer.
“I had to go off on my own,” the director explained while accepting his BFI Fellowship award.
“So, okay, I haven’t got Michael Caine, I’d better get Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Kenneth Branagh, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Cillian Murphy, Tom Conti, and hoped that all those greats would add up to one Michael Caine.
“So many people have helped me, so many people have been there for me, in so many different ways. I’m very moved to receive this, very moved by the presentation. This means the world to me.”
Cillian Murphy honours Christopher Nolan
Another longtime collaborator with Nolan is Murphy, who finally became the director's leading man on Oppenheimer.
Murphy presented his friend with the award this week, and praised his work as well as him as a person.
“His films are unique, boundary-pushing, singular, provocative, ambitious and unforgettable”, Murphy said. “He is a one in a million, a true legend, one of the greatest directors in the world. It is a privilege of mine to know him, and to have worked with him so closely over the last 20 years. I have the utmost respect for him as an artist and a human being,"
