Curb Your Enthusiasm executive producer Jeff Schaffer has revealed that the character of Larry David nearly met his end in the 11th season of the show, as a death scene - of sorts - was filmed.

The HBO show stars David as a fictionalised version of himself living in Los Angeles after the success of hit show, Seinfield, which he co-created.

The narrative of season 11 is kicked off with a botched burglary at Larry's house as the perpetrator falls to his death in the swimming pool, which is supposed to be fenced off.

Schaffer says the plan was always to end the series with Larry falling into the pool in a similar manner, though no death would actually have been confirmed as Curb Your Enthusiasm is usually renewed after production on a series has finished.

"I am very proud of this season," Schaffer previously old The Hollywood Reporter.

"Sometimes we don’t know where we are going, but this season when we started with Larry finding the dead guy in the pool, right away I knew that we were going to end it with Larry falling into a pool because there was no fence.

"Sometimes it’s obvious. With the season before, we knew that spite store was going to meet its demise, somehow. But this one, it just felt right. I know I say this all the time, but every season is the last season. And I wanted to prepare as if it was the last one. So Larry kept falling into that pool without the fence and banging his head .

"We actually have a shot after he’d fallen in, of the still pool with just the envelope floating in the middle, and maybe adding one bubble."

Will there be a Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12?

Curb Your Enthusiasm will return for season 12, its final season, in 2024.

“Larry outdoes himself season after season and always manages to come back when the audience needs him most,” an HBO statement read.

“We’re thrilled for him, Jeff Schaffer, and our phenomenal cast to continue making us laugh and cringe in equal measure.”
