Mikolaj Glowacki returns to the town of Zybork where he grew up after many years of absence. Glowacki once had addiction problems, but is now a famous writer who became popular with a book about a murder that took place in Zybork twenty years earlier. When an unknown figure tries to blackmail him, he is confronted with his past. Meanwhile, his wife Justyna, who works as a journalist, delves into an investigation into local corruption. Tomasz Glowacki, Mikolaj's father, is also an influential activist who fights against corruption and the local government's plans to transform the town against the will of the citizens.
