Anyone who likes Into the Wild should definitely see this film. Awesome movie. Fascinating images and landscapes especially. Funny how Jeremiah goes into the wilderness (not quite clear why) to get away from people and then in no man's land, has meaningful encounters throughout the movie, makes friends, marries zelfs and has a child adopts (the latter two against his will at the start). The best part is that Jeremiah Johnson is such a well-developed character without the film being explained for even a minute. His encounters and actions say much more than all kinds of background information that things stop.

I found the pace wonderfully meandering to gain momentum after the intermission. I'm not a fan of Redford, but he's made some fantastic movies with Pollack (and Hill, really). Was expecting a nice movie, but it was a hell of a movie. Delicious and a good example of why I really like the western genre (adventurous, beautiful landscapes, both dramatic possibilities and action).

Mediocre film about an ex-soldier who wants to build up his existence in the mountains. A film about people and nature, and the shots of the (snowy) mountains are certainly beautiful. However, the lack of any storyline made this quite a long-winded sit for me. One of the lesser in the Redford/Pollack collaboration.

Beautiful western and survival film, which is closer to The Revenant than to classic westerns. The film shows the hard life of a "mountain man", who chose to live in the mountains. Between the threat of the Indian tribes, the wild animals and the harsh climate, Johnson has moments of joy and sorrow... One of Redford's greatest roles as far as I'm concerned, that's completely true Brix. The production of this film had a lot of problems: bad climatic conditions, a shortage of budget, so Pollack started to dig into his own pockets. And yet they managed to complete the project with pain and effort. The result is impressive. Especially the scenic beauty made my heart beat faster.
