San Francisco, 1906. Duke Fergus, a cowboy from Montana, travels to San Francisco to claim his money from Tito Morell, who runs a gambling palace on the Barbara Coast. However, Duke loses to Tito's gambling and he returns to Montana. There Duke wants to master gambling. Then he goes back to San Francisco. Tito loses his gambling palace to Duke. Duke not only wants the gambling palace, but also Tito's girlfriend Ann "Flaxen" Tarry, whom he has fallen in love with.
