"Refuse to Be a Victim"

Journalist Brea and her boyfriend John head into the mountains for a romantic weekend. Along the way, they stop in a small town along the coast where they are accosted by a group of men on motorbikes. They can barely prevent a fight and travel on. However, they are unaware that they have accidentally come into possession of a cell phone. A phone that the biker gang desperately wants back.

Hesitant.

Traffik is another film directed by Deon Taylor, which has never really caught my eye. I don't think any film has received a higher rating than a 2.0* from me because of him. Traffik also makes no difference to that series, and neatly joins the other films that I also found mediocre.

To begin with, there is very little thriller to be seen for this so-called thriller film. No doubt it's all meant to be exciting, but Taylor never manages to rub some tension into anything. The scenes fly by, but none really impress. There are many elements mixed in to make the film more exciting, but it never succeeds in Traffik.

The concept is still nice and has worked with these types of films before. Bringing in such a motorcycle gang to portray as villains in your film offers an opportunity to involve nice and idiosyncratic bad guys in the whole. That seems to happen briefly with Goss, but you soon find out that the gang contains little threat.

Visually still fairly smooth, the nighttime images of the forest or misty scenes of people standing in the distance look good. It is quite a well-kept and well-decorated film that does not get boring quickly, and despite the fact that the soundtrack is often poorly chosen, the film has enough nice scenes that are quite a treat for the eye. The visual highlight is probably the pool scene.

Acting is still nice and the film is approaching a strong point, but otherwise it just lacks the attributes to lead it to a successful result as a whole. Absolutely no suspense and invisible villains. It all just takes a bit too long and the pace has some problems, overall Traffik is a professional, but disappointing film. Shame.

Watched today, weak start to the film, I first wanted to turn it off after 20 minutes because I thought what am I watching?
But luckily from the moment they get to the gas station and encounter the biker gang, it only starts to get good, the tension is built up well afterwards and you were sucked into the film!
Good subject, although we have of course seen this before in films, I still found the film quite exciting in the woods, beautiful location too.
Also a twist on half of the movie Why didn't she take the gun from that motorcyclist in that resident's house and shoot them all 1 by 1, but no she ran to the car that didn't work.. .

You could have predicted the end a bit, I had fun with this!

Traffik is a film with a heavy theme, which will clearly be central here. The structure and the story itself are not really of a very high level. It has little depth and relies mainly on the tragedy of the subject itself. I think this is a bit easy to score but good.
