“Okey-dokey. Here we go.”

Hannibal's strongest point is the atmosphere. Beautiful locations, atmospheric music, beautiful images, etc. Hannibal sometimes feels like a brochure for a holiday to Italy. Hopkins is also back on track as Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Moore puts down a solid Clarice Sterling.

Hannibal's problem is the script. The film just won't get going and it seems as if Ridley Scott fell a little too in love with Italy during filming. Because he also forgets to make an exciting and sharp film. Hannibal has become a somewhat salty film with only a sporadic revival. But with Italy as the backdrop and Hopkins clearly looking forward to it, Hannibal is certainly not an unpleasant viewing experience.

Good thriller with again a very strong Hopkins. In my opinion, the film remains fairly faithful to the book (definitely recommended). Fortunately, the last scene is reasonably imitated from the book. Although Hannibal can't compete with Red Dragon and especially Silence of the Lambs, it is still a great ending to Hannibal Lecter's story.

Half a star less because Jodie Foster didn't finish the role of Starling. There is enough tension in the film and the running time of more than 2 hours is certainly not wasted time. Quid pro quo.

3.5*

Perhaps a tad less than Silence of the Lambs, but in my opinion a very strong print!
