Saw Greenland today and as far as I'm concerned, for now, the best film of 2020. Had already read good reviews through the media, but after seeing the film I still have a wow feeling. Although I thought beforehand that the film was just going to be good. There are many disaster movies in a dozen, most of which are not too good to taste, but this one is different and also grabs the throat more. The Impossible already did that a few years ago, but Greenland is even more emotional. Gerard Butler, like his film family, does an excellent job as a father who wants to save his family. In my opinion his best acting performance ever. This goes beyond the action hero we are used to from him. I hope the movie comes out worldwide. I even deserve Oscars for this film. I look forward to your responses.

In a disaster year, going to the cinema for a disaster movie, it is appropriate. A movie I probably wouldn't pick up otherwise, but there aren't many alternatives running at the moment and some of the reviews weren't bad.

Greenland is a disaster film along the lines of The Impossible or The Day after Tomorrow. But it does raise the bar a little higher. Of course we get an American approach, but it is already less thick. No American heroes to fix it all, no president to fight heroically, no American flag in every scene. This time it follows the average citizen and the response to an unbelievable disaster.

In terms of story, Greenland is quite predictable with the family, the necessary romance on the sidelines and drama of course. But that in itself doesn't bother here, it belongs to the genre of the blockbuster/disaster film. What is good is the impact of the disaster, which is of a more impressive level than most other disaster films. And while the clock is ticking for mother earth, the story about the family works with quite a bit of tension. A bit corny here and there, but it's not really disturbing. So best to enjoy and a surprising recommendation!

Disaster movies are spectacular, often with a lot of action, but so predictably coupled with cliché, stereotypical characters, and especially little tension that you should get when you have to flee for your life. Refreshingly, Greenland was no scientists having discussions, no journalists trying to find out the truth, and no president making heroic speeches. `In the film we see Gerard Butler's character who recently cheated on his son's birthday. Once there, he gets news through the TV that comets are on their way to Earth. In the supermarket he gets a phone call that his family has been selected to an unknown destination and they have to catch a plane to take them there.

What follows is an intensely nerve-racking start. The tension was to die for. Never before have I been so connected to the protagonists in a disaster film. And that is mainly due to the directing. Ric Roman Waugh knows how to get the best out of the actors. The biggest example is his film Snitch with Dwayne the Rock Johnson. In it he acts better than any other blockbuster he has done. Waugh also manages to create a realistic image in his film, which is often experienced in real life today. The desperation, jealousy for rich. Camera work is often not Hollywood with a lot of shots that you see in indie & low budget films. Film unfortunately loses tension in act two with improbabilities and still some clichés, but is made up for with good supporting roles/cameos from Scott Silence of the Lambs Glenn, among others. Greenland is a big surprise and gives hope that the disaster film will turn out well.
