“You're my type of woman.”

Strong movie. Frenzy is one of Hitchcock's last films, and the film shows that even towards the end of his career, the legendary director still had enough inspiration to deliver an interesting crime story. This is clear from the start with the beautiful overview shot of London. The plot surrounding a serial killer is well crafted and the early disclosure of who the killer is is a trick Hitchcock is known for. There is also a surprising amount of humor in the film, and the scenes between Detective Oxford and his wife are highlights. Frenzy is one of Hitchcock's last and best films.

Good film in which London is ravaged by a murderer who strangles women with a tie. It takes a while for the plot to get going. Some typical Hithcock moments (like the killer looking for his tie clip). However, it is all just a little less memorable than some of his other films. Some funny dialogues with wry humor (such as the cooking skills of the police chief's wife).

Strong movie. Of the Hitchcock movies I've seen so far, this one stands out as the atypical. The bustling, gray London as a location immediately makes a style break with his work from previous decades, and I found that very refreshing. But Frenzy is also a lot more violent and dark than his previous films. Even a bit naked here and there, but good, it was of course the 70s by now. All in all fresh and surprising, and the plot was strong again. It's very straightforward and immediately as a viewer you know who the real serial killer is, but I thought that was a very good choice. No tiring plot twists or a stretched whodunit mystery, but focus on a well-constructed plot. A lot of modern directors could learn something from that. Mystery doesn't necessarily equate to good writing.
I didn't think Jon Finch's acting was that impressive, but he did play an interesting character. Barry Foster, on the other hand, completely steals the show as the charming yet hideous psychopath. Very good role by him. Another big plus for me was the British dry humor. In the beginning with those comments about the corpse, or those bits with the police detective who doesn't like his wife's food. That's great.

4*
