Vera Clouzot and Simone Signoret played the lead roles in the 1955 French thriller-noir Les Diaboliques, a killer thriller noir. As wife and mistress respectively, they plot the murder of their husband and lover together. In the Hollywood version from '96, Isabelle Adjani is the good wife Mia. Nicole, the bitchy mistress, is played by Sharon Stone. Chazz Palmenteri is the victim, the man who gets their - literally - deadly rage on his head. But who are the real victims? The two women have it very hard to endure. And then Kathy Bates steps in to taunt them even more, as a meddling detective desperate to solve the mystery. Despite countless (haughty) attempts, American remakes of French dramas remain less successful than the original. Diabolique is no exception to this rule, and was even ruthlessly drilled into the ground in the press. That was also unjustified, because this print can be viewed very well. Those who have not yet seen the original and therefore do not have sky-high expectations, will certainly not be disappointed. There is strong acting in Diabolique. Given the stereotypical roles and some really wacky stagings, all four actors are also morbidly funny...

It's all pretty well portrayed. Nice and quiet, great settings.

The cast does a good job, only the detective was annoying.

I'll remember that thing with the pool more than a scene in Venice from The Tourist. It had something to say.

Decent film, downright thriller.

Remake of the French thriller with an attractive cast. The story starts very slowly and there are few moments of tension. Its predecessor is a bit nicer: the ideas were better developed. Isabelle Adjani is always nice to see. 5/10
