Dead Man's Shoes plot
"He's in all of us."
After seven years, two brothers return to their hometowns in the Midlands. They settle in a house on top of a hill. It soon becomes clear that the eldest brother, Richard, has not returned for the vast landscape. He wants revenge on the groups of dealers and losers who still roam the city after seven years. One by one he seeks them out to kill them. The macabre and allegorical murder scenes sow panic and paranoia. What is the reason for all this bloodshed?

Not so special.
The only real reason to watch this film is the rather genius role of Considine, who takes the film to a higher level. For the rest, I actually thought it was a fairly basic revenge movie, which is also not very special in terms of elaboration. A few nice scenes are still happy, like that trip scene, although things like that have of course been done better in other films. Furthermore, the cinematography is rather poor, and the soundtrack is fortunately still reasonable.
Looks easily away, yes, but otherwise just a bit of a gray mouse in my opinion. Considine and a few nice moments give the film a tight enough score. 2.5*.

Very much enjoyed this movie which is a mix of a few genres.
At first it seemed like a drama with a comic, typically British twist. Gradually, the film becomes rawer and more exciting. All this against a beautiful staging and with an appropriate sound. Just past the halfway mark, I wondered if the film would still surprise me. Fortunately, that certainly did not disappoint.

I'm willing to assume that there are people who run away with this. I walk away too, but without.
Irritating characters (that's partly the intent, I know) and beyond that I just can't find very much positive. I didn't think it was beautifully filmed, the story got more and more annoying - and that while on paper it is a very gray work, I think... ... ...? Better yet 'London to Brighton'.
1.0*, I can't get any higher.
