mediocre. actually more of a drama than the aforementioned thriller.
despite the clearly intense situation we have to deal with, the film doesn't grab a moment. there is only very limited tension and the characters are not really catchy either, it remains much too superficial for that. that actually also applies to the story itself, because it lacks depth and detail. in addition, I don't get very excited about watching half a movie with naked men, but I do respect the actors for that. it's waiting for the escape - given the title - and when that happens it's not very exciting. even a bit unbelievable (all those people in that wooden house don't hear people walking on the floor?)
for a true story, there was certainly much more possible in terms of filming. now it doesn't even make it as an in-between as far as I'm concerned.

A film about the Argentinian dictatorship, in which a goalkeeper from, I believe, the second division was kidnapped, imprisoned and tortured by the regime. This film tells his true story, which he was able to tell through the escape from which this film owes its title. Violence is not shunned in this film. The operation of the dictatorship was simple and is clearly shown here, someone is tortured (guilty or innocent does not matter) until he betrays someone else (who is also innocent), only then does the torture stop and that person is arrested and he suffers the same fate until he calls another name, and so on.

Personally, I prefer the film on this subject La Noche de los Lápices (1986), which is about the early days of that dictatorship, when hundreds of students and students were arrested and suffered the same, the full story gets more attention in that movie while in this movie the focus is mainly on the detention and torture. Still, this one gets 3.5* from me.

Painful drama about random people who are tortured during the Videla regime to force them to rat on other citizens. A poignant story with a wonderful ending.

Better films have been made about the terror in Argentina at the time, such as La Noche de los Lápices (1986) and Garage Olimpo (1999), but this film may also be there.
