Still a pretty nice movie!

Great setting, good acting and some very tense moments, the story may not be all that great, but this movie has other positives. I have to say I really liked the movie! After a good intro, the film got going quickly and the tension was well increased, a lot of action, a constant threatening atmosphere in a world that is completely different than we know... no, this film deserves a sufficient score. Of course the story could have been a lot better and it's not all super original, but I managed to enjoy myself, and many people forget that that's what watching a movie is all about, right?

Hence 3* for this fun movie!

Fine.

Not a bad horror film at all in the end with some nasty moments. Unfortunately, director Renfroe never manages to get the most out of it. This movie could have easily gotten mega intense and unnerving.

The story is well thought out, and knows how to entertain. Acting also helps with that and the ice cream world is well designed despite some budget constraints here and there. This is especially noticeable because the ice world is never played optimally.

The biggest problem with the film is that it wants too much into the 95 minutes. This would have been just about ideal material for a 3-part miniseries. However, that has all been shortened and that does not work very well, now the film wants too much.

The film never bores and has a great story. Zegers, Fishburne and Paxton all do well in the film and know how to give charm. The decoration and use of the camera are also fine and the tempo is sometimes also nice.

Some very nasty moments here and there that manage to give a perfect, exciting atmosphere. First encounter with the cannibals in the orange-lit room followed by the brutal death of that handsome are good, handsome mood enhancers.

Too bad there's no threat from those people. They scream and hope and act crazy, but are they really scary? Absolutely not. And the tension that was very good for a while suddenly subsides after about 20 minutes and then mainly changes into a standard action/thriller despite the set.

Too bad, a project where much more could be done. The director knows quite a bit to prove, but seems to have been limited somewhere. I don't know if it was him, the writers or the production company, but it wasn't always good.

“Is there anyone else? Is anyone else alive?”

“Define alive.”

Mediocre. Harsh conditions, a claustrophobic environment, zombies, Fishburne etc. The Colony has enough elements to make a good movie. But it has become a boring and superficial film that does not impress for a moment. In one or two scenes you feel some tension and the setting itself creates a chilling atmosphere, but it's not enough for a good movie. And that's pretty cool.
