A dull, static mix of film noir and science fiction, with Hugh Jackman mediocre as a half-baked scientist who has devised a way to relive memories. Visually, the film is reminiscent of the work of Christopher Nolan (whose brother Jonathan is producing here and his wife Lisa Joy is directing), but the content is infinitely flatter and above all less fascinating. Flooded Miami looks sporadically impressive, but the plot drags on slowly and the mystery around which the film revolves is too scant to hold the suspense.

Pretentious film with a murky story about a troubled man who obsessively searches for a mysterious woman in a partly drowned world. It's nice that there are people who can make something useful out of this. I'm not that arty.

A lot can be done with memories in the sf and it is of course a godsend for detective-like stories because all kinds of puzzle pieces can be incorporated. In the vein of Strange Days, Total Recall and Anon, this Reminiscence throws it more on the film noir with a touch of romance.

Especially in the beginning a somewhat slow film that was perfect for a sultry summer evening like this one. The plot gets a lot thicker and more interesting after the first half hour. Glad I didn't see it in the cinema because there were too many moments that I had to rewind to see what it was like. The story is somewhat complex, but certainly understandable.

Acting performances are adequate. A very decent directorial debut from Joy who had done 1 single Westworld episode before. Which Thandie Newton was in (is? I don't follow that series anymore). She was allowed to play something other than the piece for once. Her character also had enough substance. I have nothing to do with Rebecca Ferguson. But the plot surrounding her character certainly intrigues. Jackman is on a proficient autopilot.

It takes place in a future and of course things always have to look different in such a future. in this case it's half a Waterworld. I didn't think it added anything except a bland future sauce. It also looks fine.

Little bit of action here and there, with a deus ex machina moment, but the emphasis is on the story.
