Very bland, soggy romantic drama film in a science fiction jacket. So you can summarize this film in one sentence. Then and well after halfway through, nothing really special happens. In this cinema there was a pause in the middle; then nothing had actually happened. I was hoping for an exciting twist at the time, but instead literally all the clichés were pulled out: wife finds out the man's secret that he "cheated" her (given by the omniscient person of course), they can can't stand each other anymore, something bad is about to happen, they have to work together anyway, the man has to sacrifice himself, almost dies, is barely resuscitated by the woman, are all soggy again, it goes wrong again, only one person can survive, the man sacrifices himself, woman survives and everyone is happy, end.

You can tell I left the room disappointed. If I had to mention something positive it would be the beautiful visuals and the VFX. They came into their own in 3D. Plus a touch of humor here and there.
But it pretty much ends there. In the end, the laughter in the room was more about the clichés than the jokes. The actors did not deliver anything noteworthy at all.
Dutch subtitles were sufficient.

I can't really say more about it.
For the beautiful images and the fact that I've been bored worse with other films:
3.5/10

Better than expected.

But I didn't expect much from it. Maybe because it reminded me a bit of The Host, although I honestly don't know where that link came from. In any case, I expected something young adult-like, luckily it wasn't.

It's a film that works very well on the one hand, and feels like band work on the other. The latter is mainly due to the plot, although I must say that it could have been worse. The film occasionally gives classic hints that fortunately aren't always followed (like the pod manual in the drawer - ultimately not the reason why the secret came out). But roughly speaking, it remains classic Hollywood with predictable storylines and a rather rude last half hour.

But it is a sci-fi film, and in that respect the film manages to present something beautiful and inspiring. Not that it's packed with great original ideas, but the execution is pretty cool. Such as the swimming pool that continues just outside the spacecraft, the sun sweep or the possibility of a short spacewalk/flight. The ship itself looks really great too. You would like that.

As far as I'm concerned, that good sci-fi elaboration wins out over the lame plot, because that's something I often miss in a lot of sci-fi. Another plus for the bar scenes. Reminds me of The Shining indeed, but they're just fun. Lawrence and Pratt are also doing well, although they are ultimately quite interchangeable.

Amusing film, although you should not hope too hard for a fascinating story. And whether a better director could have done more with this? Probably, but the chances are at least as good that they screwed up because they want to say something "interesting".

A lot nicer than I expected actually. With Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in the lead, I might have expected something less mature. I guess I just didn't read up enough and I'm glad this is on Netflix. I rarely avoid sci-fi.

Passengers reminded me a lot of The Quiet Earth. I always find it interesting to see someone in an environment where it is further extinct. The freedom that arises always provokes fun actions, but at the same time it is also clear that it will gnaw at you. It is therefore very funny to see that Chris Pratt is bullying the cleaning machines. Also enjoyed the conversations with the android bartender and the fight with the coffee machine. Where The Quiet Earth goes backwards with the addition of a female character, it does add something to this. A rare beautiful romance ensues that is also destroyed in a rare blunt way. On the sci-fi level, I also saw beautiful things, such as the almost drowning in the pool water without gravity. It does make you think for a while and it's a very original scene anyway. A more than fine movie. As Patrice8 mentioned above, probably worth seeing again.
