Revision produces the same result.

Spielberg is not really the man for sci-fi. On the other hand, Spielberg is simply not my director, because after roughly 20 films he has not been able to convince me once. But he really lacks that techy side that you need to make a good sci-fi.

Still, there are some nice ideas in it, but the execution (that touch interface, those disks) are just too corny to really give shape to that sci-fi world. Where Spielberg's hand is noticeable is in the plot. A classic Hollywood "humanity" case, it could have been something for Kubrick.

It's amazing how these kinds of stories always go. An almost utopian world without murder, but due to some haggling in the margins and the necessary art and flying work in the plot, doubt is sown, so the whole thing is called off. Strange moral as far as I'm concerned.

Visually it is now a bit outdated, but not disturbing, what does disturb is the pinging of John Williams. If Spielberg isn't such a great sci-fi director, Williams isn't score-wise at all. Cruise is mostly herself. Appropriate but a little annoying. Fortunately, there is Morton who is still two gears up in terms of overacting. Terrible role.

The film runs smoothly and in terms of premise there is enough interesting in it, but the execution is just weak and well-behaved. Spielberg summed up in two words.

Mediocre.

The premise is promising in itself, or at least enough for a great action movie with some sci-fi. At best, this would have been made 10 years earlier by, for example, a Paul Verhoeven, then it might have been more entertaining. In the hands of Steven Spielberg, on the other hand, I don't think everything has been done.

First of all, the cast is terrible - Tom Cruise in his umpteenth action role, Samantha Morton with that ridiculously over-the-top acting, ... Action films rarely guarantee the best acting, but there can be ordinary acting worthy of the name .

And furthermore, Spielberg makes it way too long and the film becomes more sticky by the minute. Some humor or self-relativity is also missing. For example, I continue to find Spielberg a very volatile director, despite his name and fame. It all looks expensive and professional, but that's often it for me. Regrettably.

John Anderton [Tom Cruise] is a Pre-cop who can see crimes before they happen with the help of so-called 'seeers' and thereby prevent those crimes. When one of those visions shows that John himself is about to commit murder, John runs away headlong and has colleague Danny Witwer [Colin Farrell] after him. John quickly concludes that something is amiss and that he must not only steer clear of Witwer, but also find out why his boss Lama Burgess [Max von Sydow] would want to frame him. A perfect vehicle for Cruise, based on a short story by Philip K. Dick and directed with style and speed by Spielberg. The impressive special effects make this a very pleasant roller coaster ride that, however, has too many twists in the last 45 minutes and is therefore difficult to follow in the long run.
