A fun movie with an intriguing theme. The film title already shows that this is about time travel. It is a small and ingeniously constructed film in which constant changes of perspective as well as jumps in time continuously confuse both the viewer and the main character.

The nice thing about the film is that main character Hector has to watch events that he himself causes through unsuspecting clumsiness, again and again and very forced from a fresh angle, in order to avoid total derailment. The film uses a narrative style with a (very pleasant) light-hearted and humorous tone. It is a tragicomedy with an occasional cynical edge. Very nice.

The protagonist Karra Elejalde, unknown to me, is well cast. With his tragicomic appearance and his sensitively played moodiness, he fits in perfectly with the tone of the story.

It is not a film with a lot of spectacle and grand effects, nor a film that tires the viewer with imposed artistry and exhaustive theoretical nonsense. Director Vigalando presents the events in his debut film very soberly and very calmly. Sharply written, full of suspense and with enough twists and unexpected turns to keep you interested. What happens next on the screen is wonderfully crazy, idiotic, fascinating and very entertaining.

Finally seen. What an original movie. The fact that everything that's happened and you can't change that is nicely worked out and nothing is what it seems in this movie. It is a cheaply made film, but the story makes you look captivated at the screen.

Nice.

Normally I don't find these kinds of films that play with the concept of time too interesting, but Timecrimes often came up in the top lists of horror films. So, as a horror movie fan, I finally wanted to pick a moment to see the movie. That came recently, and the film certainly didn't disappoint me.

Director Vigalondo does not seem to be aiming for horror in this film, except for a few winks. Timecrimes is simply a very interesting and intriguing thriller with science fiction elements and in the far distance also horror influences. Nevertheless, the thriller takes precedence and that seems to be the right choice, because the substantive story matters here more than the horror aspect.

Visually just rather ugly. Loose editing, ugly filters, poor use of location. It is that thanks to the substantive added value and tight characters, the film still manages to captivate, otherwise it looks pretty ugly. However, you have to bear in mind the lack of budget, so some of that is forgiven, on the other hand I still think there was quite a lack of fantasy in the director's vision.

But if we look at the story, we see that Vigalondo excels in devising and developing a good story. This film seems simple in the beginning, but eventually it becomes more and more complex. Towards the final I suddenly lost the thread, while I could still follow the film well before that. So strongly told by Vigalondo, for that my compliments.

Timecrimes is nowhere very exciting, but very fascinating and the 92 minutes, which are also not a big task because of the short duration, pass quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and enjoyed following the unravelings. If the director now gets a bigger budget to work with I can't wait to see what else we can expect from him.
