I think it's a nice movie. Not more, but certainly not less.

The panicked behavior of the son did indeed get on my nerves. ... his bad choices and his rebellious behavior is extremely annoying but is actually realistic. It makes him human and a child (...and let's face it... my kids also get on my nerves regularly )

Beautiful nature.

...I can't agree with those very bad reviews.

The only reason Jaden Smith is in this production is because his father is the producer of the film...given his limited acting skills (which in no way transcend primary school level) all I can think of is that ''the son of'' is in the lead role given because daddy smith had too big a finger in the pie in the division of roles... biased and misplaced...

The link that the film seems to have with the Church of Scientology and their bizarre ideas already raises eyebrows in advance (there's Will again with his delusional ideology and he wants to force that rubbish on everyone) and although not so lousy and idiot like Battlefield Earth, I can only classify this film as ''pretty bad'', but what do you want when the protagonist barely exceeds the amateur (toddler) level....maybe my sister should give it a try... .

Not good.

As a film lover it is undoubtedly a shame that I have hardly seen anything from M. Night Shyamalan and let it be his lesser films. After The Last Airbender, one of the worst blockbusters I've ever seen, After Earth is an improvement again, but that can hardly be called a credit.

Also After Earth is simply too weak. Will Smith, who apparently had something to say during the production, misses the mark completely. He himself acts deadly serious, but in the misfire that the film is, that does not come into its own at all. His acting is also inextricably linked to that of son Jayden and as much fun as it must have been for the Smith family, it seems like a competition to act for the worst. Son Smith really can't do anything about it and is an annoying teenager for the entire film - the direction (by daddy Smith?) is not free here either.

I also like the layout, although not original. With a post-apocalyptic Earth there is always something to do. But visually it only comes into its own moderately. The CGI isn't too good - despite a big budget, I think - the designs of the creatures are just that way. A few unmemorable action scenes remain, which do provide a small spark between all that bland melodrama.

1,5
