Good setting, atmosphere, actors, villain...but where's the story? There was no beginning or end explained and I thought the police were just a bunch of bums. The film had a lot of potential, a real shame ..

The Black Phone

Yes, I did appreciate this thriller. Strong cast, the youth also acted in just top. The tension was good at times, is he going to listen to the deceased boys or is he going to have his own plan. Like Cinefiel_1 I also found The grapper more unpredictable than scary and that might make him scarier. Nice to see the bond between brother and sister. You rarely see it that way in real life, all the more beautiful to see it in a movie. Partly thanks to her dreams, they were also able to track down the location of the deceased boys.

The ending may be a bit far fetched, but the kid did it anyway with the help of the deceased boys and his left arm .

3.5 stars.

"Help! The Grabber!"

This Black Phone knows how to keep the attention constantly. There is a continuous menacing atmosphere in the film and plenty is happening. There are also some mystery elements, but they are not as over-the-top, as in Stranger Things, for example. The film does not shy away from violence: there are quite violent fight scenes in it. I thought the story was well put together from start to finish. It never gets too pretentious. Acting is also fine.

The atmosphere in The Black Phone is somewhat reminiscent of a Stephen King. On further 'research' I therefore found that The Black Phone is based on a novella by Stephen King's son Joe Hill (as already noted by cozy chair I see now) The kidnapping with balloons seemed to me to be a reference to Stephen King's IT . For me one of the best horror/thriller releases of this year so far.

Go see this on the big screen!

4*
