Quite old-fashioned and quite trash, but still entertaining in its own way. You would classify the film as action and adventure rather than horror. It is all presented with the necessary kitsch and campy allure. This is what the swamp monster looks like, but the battle at the end in particular defies all imagination. That looked completely ridiculous and cheap. And yet... the story has a brisk pace and there are a lot of light-hearted and fun action scenes in the film. Other plus points are the beautiful shots in the swamp areas and Adrienne Barbeau who also treats the eye. The film is based on a comic and is directed by Wes Craven who links a bizarre inspiration to the story, namely the child who lives in the middle of those swamp areas and sometimes just appears out of nowhere. How did you come to put this in your film? But honestly, I wasn't bored anywhere and quite entertaining in its own way. 6/10

Something completely different from what I've already seen from Wes Craven. I expected a horror, but apparently this was a film with which Wes Craven wanted to prove that he could also handle the action genre. And the action part is certainly competently done. What was especially lacking for me was the atmosphere. You're in a swamp with a monster, but it all takes place in broad daylight and the monster is more like a BFG. Although Craven must have been tied to the character of the swamp thing, which already had a history in comics. It didn't really interest me, but I still found the last 25 meters entertaining.
