Expectations were so low that it actually turned out better than expected. Coming up with Piranhas again wasn't interesting so a few wings were glued on. I do like those corny experiments in horror movies, although the effect is indeed mediocre. It's a wonder the strings didn't get tangled.

In any case, the holiday resort is a nice location to show a tit now and then, and every piece of tit is a nice bonus if you know that the chance that there is not much else to see is quite high. Because the piranhas don't come into view much, only towards the end. The design is not spectacular, as are the sounds and movements they make, but the make-up on the victims was relatively good.

The cast was adequate, with a sympathetic O'Neil and Lance Henriksen (with ck in the opening credits...hm). The ending is far from creative, which is probably the first thing that comes to mind with such a film. How do you destroy a killer animal that appears immortal? With an explosion of course!

A smaller improvement.

That is not too difficult because the first part had almost no budget and was mainly a very small film. The piranhas formed a nice concept for some tasty horror, but Dante hardly managed to get an exciting feeling at the time and therefore the first part was quite tiring. Part 2 is a small improvement.

But not very much either. The budget seems to have increased slightly, while it still remains a very cheap film. Piranha II only has $150,000 at its disposal, according to IMDb, and that's pretty tight. All the more clever that Cameron makes it all seem a bit bigger, so that this film can follow in the footsteps of larger sea monster films.

However, Cameron only manages to impart a limited charisma to it. The images of gore here look a lot more menacing and meaner than the silly murders that do happen on-screen. The idea of flying piranhas is nice, but the execution is especially a little crazy. Seeing those people fighting with dolls doesn't look very exciting and although it does give a certain kind of cheese, it's far from impressive.

The flow is a bit better and the images underwater are quite successful, so you can quickly notice Cameron's love for water. Also not surprising that he descended the Mariana Trench, in this film he already descended to an underwater boat. There is little wrong with the location, but the supporting elements are missing.

The flying piranhas are never scary or threatening, the acting is bad and the course is a bit too long at 94 minutes. The fact that an attempt is made to put some humor in the film is beneficial and as a whole this film also rises above part 1, but the foolishness simply cannot be compensated. The worst film from Cameron, but that was to be expected in the end.

This sequel is a cult film by James Cameron, yes indeed Cameron. A director who has a lot of good films on his list, but not this one. Well, this was also only his second movie and not every movie can be a hit too. But it takes a long time here before you see something of those flying piranhas. The story has a funny idea, but many uninteresting characters pass in review. You might have had that in the first part too, but there was a constant threat and a lot of entertainment. Characters are even put in here to bring some humor, but unfortunately that backfired (think of that dentist and the stutterer). By the way, those flying piranhas are also a joke. No, I really have to contradict the previous review here....this is a weak sequel! 4/10
