Charming slasher. A village with mostly sympathetic inhabitants and a killer who, of course, looks great for this kind of work. The mining helmet with that light and the gas mask. Heavily breathable and with a pickaxe attached it is one that lingers. Just the same number of kills, creatively and nicely distributed over the playing time, while such a musty, dark mine is the perfect location to play out a final. What a pity about the Scooby Do-esque revelation, but oh well. Could have been a bit more vicious here and there, but I wasn't bored with it for a second.

Pretty okay.

My Bloody Valentine is one of the better ones of its kind, so old slashers. The advantage is that this film seems to have a little more budget, so that something more is possible. Cheesyness isn't really part of this either, and I can only appreciate that more because all that trash isn't for me.

This film has some particularly atmospheric sequences, especially the scenes in the mine stand out because of the unpleasant atmosphere. Good use of location, lighting and fog machines. The finale does have something special, but the scenes that are in buildings or just take place on the street during the day are a lot less interesting.

Furthermore, that killer looks nice, but the characters themselves are a bit more boring. The fact that the film occasionally throws in a weird bloated romance scene is also special. Sometimes I had the idea that two different films had been edited together. Dull form of romance too, again that extremely old-fashioned stuff that should be in a film from the year 1950.

The mystery is not very special and the twist is not too special either. Kills are fun, at times remarkably hard for the type of film. Nicely constructed especially, the POV from the killer is a nice addition. Yet they can no longer be called exciting, and this film is at times just too clumsy to be exciting.

It does look nice and doesn't last too long. It's better than its ilk, but not much better. The lack of suspense, fun characters, and over-blown romance hinder a really fun slasher. Fortunately it looks nice, otherwise this would not have been possible. Sufficient because it is slightly better cared for compared to its peers.
