Well, horror, horror... Meh.
It all started out pretty vague, and it stayed that way. I don't understand what Cage is doing here either.

It starts smoothly. Even before you have any connection with the characters (the children), it becomes clear what is going on and the kids have to survive. Furthermore, not too many words are spent on the "how and why", but that does not bother me.

I also read that it seems to be funny, but I didn't think so. Not my sense of humor I guess. I'm probably also a bit touchy because I can hardly stand it when someone wants to do something to his or her child, let alone innocent babies or small children. It sometimes made me feel a bit bad -that delivery for example-, terrible. ?

Admittedly, some scenes are nicely conceived such as the visit from grandma and grandpa. Selma is the one that carries the film somewhat, but it never rises above mediocrity. The loud, shouty soundtrack makes the whole thing just that little bit worse. Not to mention that shitty ending.

Not my thing or anything.

Yes, the story is not about anything.....for me it is on the same page as films like The Purge, another hopeless script.

Cage is just a fine above average actor but chooses and gets the wrong low budget projects.

This film is another example, everyone's acting is excellent, but the story still falls flat and is not developed.

On to the next Cage, which will probably not be more than a few weeks away

A bit of a strange film, illogically constructed and saddled with many unnecessary scenes, but ultimately quite entertaining. The biggest asset is the wonderfully crazy role of Nicolas Cage, here as a father in a midlife crisis who targets his children. His hilarious monologues make the film enjoyable in the second half. That and of course the late but very welcome supporting role of Lance Henriksen, who goes completely crazy.
