Poor movie with a nice cast. The story is quite simple and therefore lacks the necessary tension. A no-brainer.

Nice but could have done a lot more with it. The film has a very long build-up and what it ultimately works towards is quite disappointing. I expected a slightly more dark thriller/horror film, but it has become more thriller/comedy. The whole time you sit and wait where all this is going during the 90 minutes, but it's not going anywhere and that's the problem. The character Ma is in itself still quite well developed with all her mannerisms, only there is no tension at all in this film so that it is not of much use to you. All in all pretty disappointing, was really looking forward to this movie but it was a bit of a let down for me.

One more for Blumhouse's steadily growing list of mediocre. Full of colorless, flat genre films that have to be made for less and less money and by purely untalented directors without their own stamp. Taylor mainly when it comes to horror, of course. 'Ma' is an ultimate example in that respect: the starting point is not so bad, but when you write a script, you usually work in acts, where the first two simply form 90% of the whole. That makes for a middle section in which no single incident gives enough reason to continue in the story / to escalate. Only to come to the end with nothing uplifting.
