It's that time of year again for horror fans to get into the Halloween spirit. There are already a lot of old titles that are candidates to be pulled out of the closet every year, but in recent years some nice productions have been added. For example, last year we had Hell Fest, this year the similar Haunt.

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have long established themselves as writers. They really broke through with A Quiet Place and that is immediately a reason for the studio behind Haunt to have that title at the top of the poster. They are right, but that often causes some mistrust when you think you need it. Fortunately, that is not so bad with Haunt and we are left with a film that at times even rises far above average.

The premise is simple and perfect fodder for the fall season. A group of young people decide to go to an 'extreme haunted house' and that can never end well. Beck and Woods know how to create a great atmosphere and, despite the many clichés, keep the tension in it. The gore also flows freely. But what makes the film really creepy at a certain point is the identity of the hunters. This caused a positive frown from the undersigned.

Unfortunately, towards the end the makers repeat a bit too much and that takes away some of the shine from the whole. Yet Haunt is heading for an above average score and that in itself is a very pleasant surprise.

Very nice.

In advance this seemed to me to finally become a really nice horror film. I am absolutely not disappointed in that regard. There are plenty of points that the film misses out on, but if you put those aside, this is just an entertaining film that has a bit of everything.

In general, the setting really suits me. You can always wake me up to a haunted house attraction during the Halloween days, and then I don't care how old I am. It was therefore to be expected that I would find this extra interesting beforehand.

The film is actually quite interesting. There is a fairly high tempo and the film never gets boring. Both the introduction and the haunted house itself. Stevens is surprisingly good in her role and actually carries the film with ease, but the creeps are also nice and scary. Both with and without mask.

The rest of the haunted house itself is nicely decorated. Enough funny ideas and a good tension. The film sometimes seems to rely on loud noises, but in general it is sometimes quite exciting. There is also quite a bit of bloodshed. Sometimes the film should have been a little harder. Take that last blow with the bat, his whole head should have come off.

But in general it's all nice. Sometimes also quite well shot and enough pieces that especially in decoration (the haunted house) really excel. Quite exciting here and there and still good gore. I certainly enjoyed myself. Especially nice during the Halloween days.

Haunt is not the biggest film, but in its design an effective and successful film that is ideal for viewing for the general horror film. I just enjoyed the old-fashioned movie. So far my only criticism is that it should have been a little harder at times in terms of gore.

Nice.

It's becoming a tradition, around Halloween every year a few of these "Extreme haunts" movies come out. Not that surprising of course, perfect Halloween food, especially in terms of setting. As a writer, you shouldn't even bother putting your characters at risk, that's already ingrained in the genre.

Within this niche, this is a nice but predictable film. In any case, most of these types of films follow the same story, so he is purely concerned with elaboration. Beck & Woods do that pretty well, with some creepy villains, nice brutal murders and a very atmospheric setting. It's not original anywhere, but that doesn't bother me either.

Because it is quite exciting. Especially while watching, because the film doesn't stay long, but that's not really what you're looking for when you set up this kind of work. Just very nice entertainment, not too long, quite eerie and without dead moments.

3.5*
