"Humans are such easy prey."
Doctor Pretorius is working on a new experiment in which he stimulates the pineal gland so that it functions as a new sense. The experiment works and through his findings he perceives a new dimension, in which strange creatures continuously surround him. But as soon as these creatures notice the doctor, they attack him and the doctor is killed. Doctor Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs) and ambitious psychologist McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) investigate.

Charles Band, Jeffrey Combs, Dennis Paoli, Brian Yunza, Richard Band, John Carl Buechler, Stuart Gordon, Lovecraft .. the whole club of Re-Animator is complete again. And with these professionals you at least know that you will at least be served something cool. And that's absolutely right. The script, the dated CGI and the acting may not be points to immediately get very excited about, but the make-up effects (again Buechler at his best), the characters and the atmosphere make From Beyond a very entertaining horror. Furthermore, they get help from a Ken 'badass' Foree and Ted Sorel makes fun of it.
In addition, From Beyond has a whole series of hilarious moments; Combs sucking brains in the hospital and a doctor coolly and calmly begging him to stop ), for example. Or what about Ken Foree in the wrong underpants, fighting with a giant worm in the basement. You don't see things like that every day. Yet the humor is not as obvious as with Re-Animator. From Beyond may not match this masterful predecessor, but it is nevertheless a very amusing horror film. From a beautiful year of construction.

Very remarkable how that sexual charge can remain unseen. The beautiful Barbara Crampton has been jumping for joy since the first experience with the machine and the SM scene is one hell of hormones that only Ken Foree ( 
) doesn't feel like. It is immediately the strength of From Beyond and I actually rate it higher than Re-Animator (which needs an overhaul) at the moment. Stuart Gordon is one of my favorite directors. In combination with Combs, he sets the standard and few names come close (on a consistent basis).
A highlight in terms of gore/creature effects. Stuart indicates in an interview that he always wants to do something different. Yet its ingredients remain remarkably the same. Although it often tends to gravitate towards sf/fantasy with a strong supernatural touch. Crampton's flowing hair and colorful lighting in some scenes are very reminiscent of films such as Phenomena. Beautiful classic, they can't match these days.
