A thriller road movie in which a cat and mouse game develops on rural and deserted roads between a psychopathic sheriff and a beautiful young resilient woman. The film starts off rather calmly with a first meeting at a gas station between the bored-looking and annoyingly present law enforcement officer and the female driver. It is an encounter that immediately leaves you with a nasty aftertaste. The sheriff is played wonderfully false and frightening by John Schwab. The young woman, who of course has the viewer's sympathy, is played pleasantly brutally by Britni Camacho. Two fine characters to fill a film with.
The film slowly builds up the tension. Between the quiet beginning and the explosive end, the tension is fed by all kinds of threatening events that sometimes simmer under the surface and sometimes discharge directly and explosively. In this way, the film succeeds reasonably well in keeping the viewer intrigued. The knowledge that things are still going to happen arouses curiosity and tension. In addition to the exciting situation, the threatening atmosphere is further enhanced by the desolate setting.
That all sounds good but it doesn't change the fact that the course is predictable. The impact of the things that happen next is not that big. Of course, there are many other films with the same scenario. The developments can therefore be largely filled in by the viewer. The plot is simply not original. The fact that the film is nevertheless pleasant to watch and reasonably exciting is a great achievement. Blood Star may not be particularly surprising but it is a solid thriller that benefits from two excellent characters, good camera work and an atmospheric setting.

The Hitcher atmosphere was very good for me. Don't expect too much because this is really mindless entertainment.
A young woman is stalked by a woman-hating sheriff who harasses her in every way possible, until it becomes clear that he has his sights set on her life.
It is no surprise that quite a few parts in this film are predictable and influenced by previous stalk thrillers. Still, I actually thought the ending was fine. The direction is also neat; the makers and actors did their utmost to bring a nice film and do not insult their audience... that is why I add a 3*, a grade I usually give to films that I expect little from and that turn out to be fine.
