The wealthy Lois Frazer, who wants to divorce her adulterous husband Howard, discovers that he has bought a revolver. Suspecting Howard wants to kill her, she calls her boyfriend Ed Cullen, a homicide lieutenant in San Francisco with whom Lois is having an extramarital affair. When Lois kills her husband, she asks Ed to protect her. Ed manages to twist the facts so that Howard was killed in a robbery. Things get complicated when Ed is tasked with solving the murder with his ambitious younger brother Andy.
