After all the Dutch shit I'd seen lately, I was ready for American shit. I've seen the trailer for 'Vampire Academy' regularly and although my expectations were very low I gave it a chance.

The film is not a lot of fun, but at least slightly better than the standard vampire muck that we have been thrown to death with in recent years. The film takes a while to come to life, but after about fifteen minutes / twenty minutes I had a bit of hope again. Unfortunately, that didn't last long.

The actors are young and inexperienced, you can tell. Occasionally they have a look like they just came out of a cauliflower. I don't know if that's funny or very sad. Sarah Hyland, personal favorite of mine, is also somewhat disappointing.

Couldn't do much with the atmosphere of the movie. Seemed like they'd borrowed a bit from Harry Potter, Mean Girls, Twilight and a handful of other movies. I wonder if the creators weren't taking themselves a little too seriously, or if the goal was just to make a parody and screw it up completely.

The only plus was the lack of Kristen Stewart and the other Twilight 'actors', otherwise it would have been a real cry.

oh dear.

This is the umpteenth repetition of the formula film adaptation of a series of books for 'young adults'. After Potter, Twilight, Hunger, and some less successful attempts, this one. In 6 parts (a voice in the back of my head immediately thinks of 8 films).

Unfortunately I only found out about this halfway through this first part. I started to notice that the themes seem a bit familiar. Something about a school, vampires, some girls and some boys, and something complicated to give the story some volume. Where do I know that from.

But yeah. Maybe a bit too short, but after 45 minutes but gave up. I didn't manage to get into the story very well. Perhaps I am doing the makers a terrible injustice, so be it. I won't vote then.

In the first few minutes you get like the terms Dhampir, Moroi and Strigoi thrown at your head. That was enough reason for me to drop out of this comic fantasy film with a lesbian twist. Deutch undoubtedly has charisma and comedic talent, but between the campy action scenes it is noticeable that the story is too weak and that screenwriter Daniel Waters thinks he has to spice things up with misplaced, or bland humor. A great movie to fall asleep to early.
