very different, but no. playing between dream and reality has been done before, but this is done in a completely different way: nice and light and playful. somewhere I 'expected' that Stephan would eventually turn out to be suffering from narcolepsy, insomnia or sleepwalking, but that did not happen of course: it is mainly about the imaging. the dream scenes are all fun, beautiful and humorous. There are some nice little finds in the film. and that's what it should be about.

I was left with a bit of an empty feeling with the credits. you have the feeling that there could have been more out of it, although I wouldn't know what. maybe the story is right. and that's how you should see it; just a nice one and a half hour story for a movie snack.

Funny movie.

While watching Eternal Sunshine I fell asleep early, so my expectations for this movie were nil. But in any case, I could do this much better. Very cute film, with a lot of visual finds that are not so much 'beautiful', but very nice and touching. The film deals with these kinds of roguish scenes. Necessary, too, because apart from the ingeniously interwoven 'dream' scenes, it wasn't all that great visually.

Bernal puts in a nice performance, and for Gainsbourg I keep a kind of weak. Can't quite put my finger on it, but she just has something, both in terms of acting and appearance. Remaining actors are not unkind, but somewhat identityless. Doesn't matter much, after all, most screen time is reserved for Gainsbourg and Bernal.

So a nice, tender film. Creative, and with enough comic relief. Also looked away wonderfully, it was over before I knew it. Definitely 3.5*, for now.

Light snack from Gondry.

However, it doesn't exactly match titles like Mood Indigo, Eternal Sunshine... or Be Kind Rewind.

What's clear is that Gondry regularly shuttles between French and English, and this is apparently one of his few French films (whether or not half English spoken.) However, Gondry clearly had to get something done just as quickly. . The story of this film seems interesting but doesn't turn out that exciting. A man who is in love with his neighbor and can only reach her in his dreams or something... What is beautiful is the many tinkering and stop-motion actions and a cut and pasted and papier-mâché Paris.... Very creative and fun !

Still doable, but I've seen Gondry do better.

3.5*
