"Prepare for a giant adventure"

The film tells the story of an ancient war that flares up again when a young farmhand unknowingly opens a gate between our world and that of a terrifying race of giants. When the giants are unleashed on Earth for the first time in this century, they strive to reclaim the land they once lost. Jack tries to put a stop to this at the risk of his own life. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only appeared in legends. Now he has the chance to become a legend himself.

This is one of those movies that you should give a chance. It's not a typical full blown action/fantasy movie for example. The build-up is fairly slow and partly because of this I had trouble continuing to watch (the whole story didn't appeal to me either). But little by little there is more momentum and action in the story and then it is all quite entertaining. To a certain extent (pun intended ).

3*

6/10 (IMDB)

Jack The Giant Slayer is a fantasy story with the typical fairytale elements and therefore clichés. They may be clichés they worked in this film as far as I'm concerned. I am an experienced fantasy reader (books up to 1000 pages) so you know that I will normally be able to ground these kinds of films. I also think that the CGI is overreacted. The giants may be ugly, but handsome giants are less likely to frighten you. Then you just have to watch the BFG, which I thought was a dragon from a Spielberg film.

I've seen a few movies with Ewan McGregor lately and he's become one of my favorite actors. I would almost give Star Wars a chance because of him. I've seen a movie or three about it but never been convinced to watch further.

Back to this movie. So I had a good time and even laughed. This is not a children's film, it also contains humor for adults. This couldn't be much better, so I give 4* because of some original elements.
