Little story, nice Rhona Mitra, nice soundtrack, great atmosphere, a lot of action and (indeed) bad acting. Especially not the kind of film to have high hopes for, but if you don't have one, it looks nice.

A film set during the Middle Ages (Grendel and Beowulf are originally Norse mythology), but with a bit of modern setup (castle and outfits). It really doesn't add anything.

And then about Beowulf, why does his sword have a bicycle/scooter/motorcycle handbrake? Weird concepts all, Grendel and his mother - despite being a beautiful woman - look ridiculous in terms of effects and that for '99.

The fights were dull, anything-but exciting and at times very amateurish to watch.

Only Mitra and Layla Robberts were pleasant, the rest actually completely disappear after watching.
