Buitenspel plot
12-year-old Gilles dreams of becoming a professional football player and playing as a Red Devil in the King Baudouin Stadium. Father Bert supports Gilles through thick and thin: he is not only Gilles' most loyal supporter, but also his personal trainer. But then, completely unexpectedly, Bert dies and Gilles's life collapses. Not only does he lose his father, his friend, his supporter and his trainer, there are also quite a few financial corpses coming out of the closet...

Watched this one and even though I don't really like football, this one still charmed me. Actually, there is a lot of football in it, but it is well portrayed that it still comes across as fascinating.
The story is simple, but certainly not bad. The acting was also fine.
I definitely thought it was a bad movie and glad I watched it. It's not exactly a movie I need to see again, but I liked it.

A film tailor-made for Jan Verheyen. Extremely entertaining, with a bit of humor and drama, always harking back to the same cast, but above all made from a commercial point of view and purely suitable for a large audience. Didn't know this was a remake of a Dutch movie. Also personally nice that the film, just like Ben X, was partly filmed in Dendermonde. It's also great that my wife taught “Désiré” in humanities.
All in all a pleasure to watch. Not for showcasing across borders or at a film festival, but purely aimed at entertainment. The football was beautifully constructed and the acting was not too bad, by Filip Peeters and Joke Devynck. Gilles was also not too bad. The plot is very clichéd and simple, at times even too easy. Kris (Marc), best known in Flanders for the duo Kris and Yves, the roguish duo of friends with Down syndrome, provided the funny dry note.
Film certainly also suitable for a young audience, rather even a family film. Maybe I should show my son it too.
