OK, I didn't like it at all. Anti-cinema, from an umbilical editor, who not only cuts and pastes anything and everything with image, but unfortunately also with sound, while muttering quasi-philosophically in (near) the microphone, his five-fingered hands free to toggle the volume and left-right buttons. Not even the subtitles are safe from this compulsive neurotic cut and paste worker. An ordeal for the senses, especially the ears.

An unreadable picture book, as far as I'm concerned.

Not a movie that I immediately thought: I'm going to like this one a lot. But short, so also easy to grab and I've been reasonably busy going through his oeuvre since Godard's death, both the earlier work and the very experimental modern part of his legacy. Just to get to know him. But also because of ghostman's glowing posts here hoping to see some of what he sees in it. Only I can't do that.

I like movies, but oddly enough in museums I don't really like video art. Often beautiful images, but also empty in terms of content for me without further story or at least context of the film around it. The images lack expressiveness and atmosphere, unlike photos (only 1 image) strangely enough. I had to think about that a bit with these collage images: sometimes beautiful (and sometimes ugly, by the way) but the images did nothing for me. They would fit perfectly in an exhibition that I can go through at my own pace. Then it is still doable, an hour and a half in a row is too much. I soon got bored. In terms of content, I find Godard's lyrics and musings completely uninteresting anyway. If the film had lasted about 10 minutes, I could have given it a pass (not anymore, film and images don't do anything for me) but now it's all really too long.

Also as a possible documentary this thing doesn't work for me. As often with Godard, he plays with the audio tape and if you have a nice piece of sound (often music) he cuts it off abruptly. Terrible to watch and any chance to enjoy it disappears. Is this bad? No idea, it's not my taste at all. 1.0*.
