"No parents. No rules."

Some teenagers have run away from home and have to fight to survive on the streets of Los Angeles. Drugs, prostitution and violence are daily fare. The street youths form a gang and become one family, as it were. King is the natural leader of the group. When he is released after a short prison term, he visits his 'relatives' again and tries to show them how they can improve their chances of survival on the street based on his experience.

Good film about a number of young people who live on the streets in Hollywood. Not really a story, but more the daily worries of the wandering youth. Fairly raw imaged on the streets of Los Angeles, but with a nice soundtrack. A cast with quite a few well-known names, this being the film debut of Will Smith.

“You've got the rest of your life to be an asshole. Why don't you take tonight off?”

Reasonable film about a couple of young people who live on the streets in Los Angeles. The realistic and somewhat grubby way in which this street life in the 'City of Angels' is portrayed is the strongest point of Where the Day Takes You, and it's nice to see all those young heads of famous actors in one film. Will Smith, MacLachlan, Milano, Knepper, Mulroney, Slater, Astin, Baldwin, Flynn Boyle etc. Spotting famous actors is sometimes even more fun than the movie itself.

Good drama about the daily life of a group of street kids in LA. With an impressive cast such as starting roles for Will Smith and David Arquette. The film is told through an interview with King, their leader, before he is released for a crime and follows four young people who have all run away from the broken homes in which they lived, and mostly suffered. Their friendship binds them together into a new family and their house is a place under the highway where they have their sleeping place. Drugs and violence are daily constants... One of the youths, Greg (Astin) slides into excessive drug use, and another, LJ, is walking around loosely with firearms, putting them in the crosshairs of the police love. When the Day Takes You is primarily an analysis of how these young people deal with reality and whether there is still a future for them. It sometimes feels a bit incoherent, but I gradually started to empathize with them. The soundtrack is also quite good. Not very strong, but still of a decent level. If this isn't a cult movie by now, it could be one.
