Beautiful people, beautiful locations, nice weather, a Spanish guitar for those who love it, and above all reasonably interesting love affairs that are viewed, considered and commented on from all sides. But oh, that voice-over, it kills the film completely: the untranslated quarrels of Bardem and Cruz keep pushing the film to emotional peaks that disappear like cherries on a collapsing cake as soon as Christopher Evan Welch opens his mouth. Moreover, the intervention of the omniscient narrator/scriptwriter/director thus turns people into puppets, so that at Cristina's decision to break her ménage à trois with Juan Antonio and Maria Elena I immediately think: "oh yes, that Cristina soon gets tired of routine in a relationship, Allen had already announced that so that it wouldn't come out of the blue." A light-hearted and beautiful-looking but extremely well thought-out piece.

“We are meant for each other and not meant for each other. It's a contradiction.”

Nice movie from Woody. An airy and summery atmosphere, Barcelona, characters who are confused with themselves, pleasant dialogues, Javier Bardem, lots of wine, good food and of course Scarlett Johansson. Excellent material for a pleasant film.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona calmly ripples along and just when you feel like it's all a bit of a letdown, there's Penélope Cruz. Like pepper that gives a tasty dish even more flavor. Cruz is peerless and her scenes with Bardem crackle off the screen. She rages like a tornado. That's important, because the other storyline about Rebecca Hall is a lot less interesting. But Vicky Cristina Barcelona looks very nice for the rest.
