Newly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Kathy is released from prison for good behavior and returns to her Iowa mansion to reconnect with her estranged 12-year-old daughter and her cranky elderly grandfather. Her return home is a turbulent and unwelcome transition that sees Kathy come to terms with her diagnosis and its implications for her identity, while also realizing that her family was happier when she was gone. The conflict with her family intensifies as she struggles to keep her head above water and puts her self-esteem and well-being to the test.
