Great fun movie, go see this! Östlund manages to do it anyway - his last three films are really on the rise. A crazy satire à la AT Jensen that raves about modern themes and phenomena, and often comes out very creative and original. Moreover, the film varies greatly in tone, from the wonderfully abrasive opening scenes about gender roles (that first part could have been shown as a short film; thick 4 stars) to the hilarious discussion between Harrelson and the Italian about capitalism vs communism at one to sinking doomed ship.

Sometimes the humor is a bit too obvious and the easy way is sought, but even some 'gore' scenes are stylish and hilarious and in the right 'mood' will not detract from the wonderful comedy. Moreover, it will yield a lot of kudos to Östlund from the general public (and apparently Cannes). The grotesque creativity produces a bizarre mix of rarities, as well as flat comedy and substantive sharp commentary on modern culture. I like it.

Opinions will be divided about the third part, and I also had mixed feelings about it. In terms of content, this superlative of role reversalmay have been necessary, but it just wasn't interesting enough to warrant its length. As a result, some points deduction at the end, but with a very big 3.5 stars the best film of this year that I have seen so far. Let that Östlund make more films.

From-thick-wood-one-planks satire in which the modern jet set is mocked. Director Ruben Östlund does not become more subtle as his career progresses, but the film is entertaining. Especially the middle part on the cruise ship, with a great Woody Harrelson as captain, is very strong. With almost 2 1/2 hours on the long side and not all story elements and jokes work equally well, but all in all I had a great time. It's a shame that this would be the last film for Charlbi Dean, who passed away much too soon.

The Square (Film, 2017) is still his best for me, but this Triangle of sadness also scores above average on a satirical level. A film that falls into three parts, of which the part on the cruise ship was by far the best. The film is a bit too long-winded and cannot extend the level to the entire film. On the contrary, at times I really had the feeling of unnecessary long meaningless scenes.

Part I started well with the meat inspection of (male) models and their submissive and submissive position. Like a monkey, instructions are followed to the point of the absurd. The dinner between Carl and Yaya also started strong, but the bickering was allowed to end at a certain point. But I do get his point.

The cruise ship was the core of the film. Just great how the wealthy elite (even literally) were put to shit. Captain Smith (Woody Harrelson) clearly thought his way, but had to play along with protocol and fake friendliness. This in contrast to the head stewardess who was terrified if one of the guests felt uncomfortable. Beautiful girl, by the way, that Charlbi Dean with her angular face and deer eyes, excellent acting. Too bad she came so early.

The third part on the island made no sense. Only there was not much left of the class difference. And the protocol was soon thrown overboard as well. People were reduced to savages, the layer of civilization was scratched away, although I wanted it all a bit sharper. And yet the third part was rather disappointing. As said, too long-winded and a little too limited in terms of content.
