Tôkyô no Yado plot
Devastated by the hot weather, Kichachi and his two young sons look for work in the industrial town of Koto. After a frugal attempt to make money by handing home vagrants over to the police, the family hopes for better days when Kihachi finds a job in a factory. When a nice woman's daughter becomes very ill, Kihachi is forced to steal to save her life.

Nice quiet film from Ozu. His style is already recognizable with many low shots as well as the theme. Especially the first 45 minutes are beautiful when it comes to the father, his sons and the circumstances they have to live with. Touching at times, partly due to the subdued (especially for a silent film) acting. I found the second part less interesting. That plays a bit more inside and looks more static and is more boring. Also visually less interesting and the made drama (before it was more natural drama) has the upper hand. 3.0*.
