Thérèse Desqueyroux plot
"The fate of a woman."
France, late 1920s. Cheerful and free-spirited, Thérèse (Audrey Tautou) marries her neighbor Bernard Desqueyroux (Gilles Lellouche), turning the land of two families into one large estate. Bernard tolerates the strong will of his intelligent, passionate wife, but he cannot prevent Thérèse from feeling trapped and bored. The dull life in the countryside and her husband's mediocrity fuel dreams of Paris, dreams of more inspiration, culture and challenge. When Bernard accidentally threatens to poison himself with an arsenic overdose, it's too tempting for Thérèse not to take this avenue. However, she is unmasked and charged with attempted murder. She not only loses face to both families, but also her last hope for freedom.
